Storm to Dampen Tri-State With All-Day Super Soaker Thursday

It’s time to get out those rain boots and rain coats.

A coastal storm is beginning to take shape and will slam the tri-state area all day Thursday, bringing the potential for localized flooding, Storm Team 4 says.

The showers will begin from the south by the Thursday morning commute, dumping rain on much of New Jersey and making its way north as the day goes on. A few pockets of heavy rain could hit the Big Apple by mid-morning.

Long Island will stay dry until the evening commute, forecasters said. Heavy rain will then slide in from the south late, leaving the threat for isolated flooding in some areas, Storm Team 4 said.

The heaviest rain will fall north and west of the the city, with anywhere from 1 to 2 inches once it’s all said and done. Anywhere from a half-inch to an inch is expected on the coastal areas. Storm Team 4 urges the track could change, which could shift the rain total amounts.

One thing is for sure, however: it will be soggy all day Thursday.

Before that, spring begins Wednesday and the sun will shinning with highs in the 50s. It will stay cloudy after the rain moves out on Friday, however, there could be a couple of leftover showers in spots.

The region dries out over the weekend, Storm Team 4 said. Saturday will be a chillier day before Sunday sees a high near 60 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
