Man, 30, Charged With Strangulation in $20 NYC Sex Attack
Authorities have arrested a man they say forced his way into a Brooklyn apartment, pushed a woman onto her couch and tried to rape her before eventually running off with $20.
Jamel Culler, 30, was taken into custody late Monday on charges of attempted rape, robbery, strangulation, attempted criminal sex act and other crimes in the March 11 attack on the 53-year-old woman.
Cops say the woman was walking into her apartment shortly before 7 a.m. that Monday when the man pushed his way inside and shoved her on the couch. He demanded money, cops say, and she gave him $20. He took the cash, then allegedly tried to rip off her clothes but he was unsuccessful. He demanded a sex act, which the woman refused, and the suspect ran off with $20, police say.
The woman was not hurt.
It wasn't immediately clear if Culler, of Brooklyn, had an attorney who could comment on the allegations.
