Elderly, Blind Chihuahua Stolen From Owners’ Front Yard

A thief stole a beloved chihuahua out of a front yard in Queens — and the pooch has been without her medication for several days now, her owners said.

The 19-year-old dog, named Tweety, was behind a closed gate in the front yard of her Ozone Park home on Sunday when a woman in a white coat opened the gate, started petting her and eventually knocked on the front door, surveillance video shows.

Tweety’s owner, Maria Perez, told News 4 she didn’t hear the knock, as the door leads to a common area, and she lives at the end of the hall.

After the woman knocked on the door with no response, she wrapped Tweety in a red sweater and walked off with the dog.

Tweety, who is blind, sick and needs medication, has lived with Perez’ family her whole life, Perez told News 4. The distraught dog owner hasn’t been able to sleep since her pet was stolen, she said.

“I need Tweety here. I need Tweety,” she said. “I love Tweety. Everybody [loves] Tweety.”

Her son Christopher Zapata told News 4 he couldn’t believe the thief had taken Tweety from behind a closed gate.

“It just makes no sense for you to walk into our property and take our dog,” he said. “If you could just return the dog, that’s all we want.”

“We won’t press charges or [anything] like that,” he added. “We just want our dog back.”
