Assistant Principal Accused of Attacking Student: NYPD

An assistant principal at a New York City middle school was arrested Wednesday, accused of assaulting a student in January, police said.

Derrande Moore, 42, allegedly pushed a 13-year-old boy onto a table, then onto the ground and punched him on Jan. 29, according to police. The boy made the report Wednesday morning.

The victim, a student at M.S. 61 in Prospects Lefferts Gardens, had non-life threatening injuries and complained of pain.

A spokesman for the Department of Education called the accusations "extremely disturbing" and said Moore has been reassigned away from students pending the outcome of the police investigation.
