Bitter Cold, Wind Blow Into Tri-State but Snow Not Expected

Most tri-state residents will have to wait a bit longer to see the first snowflakes of the season, but they're sure going to feel the cold.

The wind chills are expected to be frigid early Friday and it'll feel like the 20s and 30s for most of the day, with wind gusts topping 30 mph by the afternoon, Storm Team 4 says. That trend sticks around through the early part of Saturday, with much of the region expected to wake up to subfreezing temperatures -- the coldest air of the season -- and bitter wind chills.

To see any somewhat significant snowfall, you'll have to head well into the Catskills and Poconos mountain ranges, where they'll get between one and three inches.

Storm Team 4 says the region could be flirting with near-record lows. The average low for Nov. 9 is 44 degrees. Storm Team 4 predicts Central Park could see 28 degrees, barely above the 24-degree record set in 1976. Newark will be even colder, around 27 degrees, which is very near the 23-degree low also set in 1976.

It won't stay frigid for too long, though. After Saturday, temps seesaw between the mid 40s and low 50s — though potentially plunging into the high 30s — through the early part of next week.
