Multiple Manhole Explosions Rattle Midtown

Several manhole explosions erupted Wednesday morning, rattling Midtown as thick, black smoke billowed out of the manholes.

The FDNY and NYPD have closed down 32nd Street between Fifth and Madison avenues due to the underground fires. 

Con Edison is on scene and is turning off power, sources say.

Images from the scene show FDNY crews working to bring the manhole fires under control.

The FDNY and NYPD are telling passersby to avoid the busy, chaotic area.

It is unclear if anyone was injured.
