Commuters and officials were preparing for a messy Monday morning rush hour after another snowstorm was expected to dump 5 to 8 inches of snow across much of the region.

Mayor Bill de Blasio urged all New Yorkers to avoid driving on Monday morning if possible.

"We are advising all New Yorkers to avoid all unnecessary travel and stay off the roads," said NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Joseph Esposito. "If you must travel, use mass transit.”

In New Jersey, where Gov. Phil Murphy issued a state of emergency, drivers were asked to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. There were commercial vehicle travel restrictions for all tractor trailers, passenger vehicles pulling trailers, recreational vehicles and motorcycles on the following interstates: I-295, I-76, I-676, I-195, I-78, I-80, I-280, I-287.

Newark residents were warned not to park on snow-covered roadways or their cars could be towed.

Amtrak has canceled some trains between New York, Philadelphia and Harrisburg on Monday due to the weather.

Keystone Service Trains 605, 609, 647, 651, 639, 642, 646, 656, 620 were canceled with no alternate transportation, Amtrak said.

New Jersey Transit was cross-honoring systemwide on Monday to allow customers more travel options.
