NYPD: Man Picks 19-Year-Old's Pocket, Convinces Him to Buy Shoes

The NYPD is looking for the pickpocket they say stole money out of a 19-year-old man's jacket who he then conned into buying him a pair of $150 sneakers.

Police say they got the call about the theft-turned-scam at the 34th Street-Herald Square subway station on March 7.

According to authorities, the thief approached the man and started talking to him. At some point, he managed to removed $75 in cash from the victim's coat pocket without him noticing.

The pickpocket then convinced the 19-year-old to buy him a pair of sneakers worth $150 from a store at the Manhattan Mall a few steps away, according to the police.

Afterward, he left.

Anyone with information about the suspect should contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
