Man Who Lost Job Kills Mom, Hurts Dad in LI Stabbing: Cops

A 29-year old man on Long Island is in custody after the stabbing death of his mother and wounding his father, police say.

According to Nassau police, the man apparently had a heated argument with his parents in their Syosset home Wednesday night after he lost his job earlier in the day at a local store.

Det. Lt. of the Nassau Police Homicide Squad Stephen Fitzpatrick says that a 911 call was placed just before 9 p.m. Wednesday about a domestic disturbance. When officers responded they discovered two people had been stabbed.

“It appeared to be a fight between a son and his parents in regards to he was dismissed from his employment earlier in the day, that argument became heated later on and erupted into this violence,” Fitzpatrick said.

The victims’ other son told NBC 4 New York that his brother had trouble holding down jobs in the past. He also said, however, his brother has no history of mental illness or violence.

“Everyone has arguments but nothing that would have indicated something like this,” the victims’ son Evan Kazer said.

The suspect’s 66-year-old mother, a retired Queens teacher, was stabbed in the upper torso and in the neck. She died of her injuries. His 69-year-old father was stabbed once and was hospitalized in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
