Woman Thwarts Attempted Rape With Hot Coffee
A Manhattan woman averted an attempted rape by throwing a cup of coffee in her attacker's face, and police are now actively hunting for the suspect in the Thursday morning assault.
The attack happened around 9:50 Thursday morning in Inwood. Police say the man followed the 51-year-old victim into her building's entry and pushed her into a hallway, ordering her to do as he said.
But when he tried to pull her pants down, cops say, she wheeled around and threw a cup of coffee in his face before screaming for help. He immediately fled from the building and ran northbound.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 30 to 40 years old, 5'10" to 6'0", weighing roughly 250 pounds, with eyeglasses, a beard and mustache. He was wearing a black knit cap, a black and gray hooded jacket, a black sweater, black sweatpants and blue and white sneakers.
Anyone with information can call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
