NYPD Cop Finds Best Friend in Abandoned Dog Chained to Fence

A New York City police officer has become a hero to a four-legged Brooklyn pooch — and now the pair has become inseparable since crossing paths.

Just after Christmas last year, officer Michael Pascale was on the job when he spotted an abandoned dog chained to a fence in Brooklyn. The pup was soaking wet and huddled against the wind and freezing rain, according to PETA.

Pascale jumped out of his car and toward the dog and rescued him from the harsh weather.

But the story doesn’t end there. Pascale officially adopted the dog he named “Joey.”

Now, Pascale is teaming up with PETA to help prevent other dogs from being left outside during inclement weather, the animal rights organization said.

In it's blog, PETA says Joey inspires Pascale to work even harder to end the abuse of chaining, which Pascale describes as "100 percent wrong."

"If someone sees a situation out in the street of an animal being abused or abandoned or anything along those lines, the first thing to do is to call 911," Pascale tells PETA. "It really is a 'see something, say something' kind of situation."
