Man Found Dead in NY Home, Search for Suspect Underway
Authorities in Rockland County are enlisting the help of police academy recruits as they search for the suspect in the murder of a man in Spring Valley found dead in his home early Wednesday morning.
Police tell NBC 4 New York they know exactly who they are looking for as special teams searched every house in the immediate area of the suspected murder.
It was a 911 call at approximately 4 a.m. Wednesday that brought cops to the home in North Brook Road where they found the victim — a 35-year-old man, who police say, knew his killer.
Authorities are searching for the suspect who they describe as a man in his 20s who fled the area. They hope to catch him by enlisting teams of Rockland County Police Academy recruits to try and help in the search.
“It’s a good opportunity,” Ramapo Police Chief Brad Weidel said of enlisting recruits to help. “A: We get a lot of additional assistance because we have a large area that we would like to search and go through and try to find evidence.”
Weidel tells NBC 4 New York that the incident was not a random act, adding that the victim and the suspect new each other.
The identities of both have not yet been released.
The investigation is ongoing.
