Police Investigate Possible Murder-Suicide in NJ: Prosecutor

A man was found murdered in a New Jersey apartment not long after another man was hit and killed by a train on Saturday — and the deaths are being investigated as a murder-suicide, prosecutors say.

The Garfield Police Department learned that a man had been struck by a NJ Transit train shortly before 4 p.m. on Saturday, acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said.

Police believe the man died by suicide, according to Calo.

Around 10:26 p.m. on Saturday, police got a 911 call reporting an unconscious man lying in a pool of blood in a basement apartment on Macarthur Avenue, Calo said.

The man was pronounced dead, and police believe he was murdered, according to Calo.

Authorities believe the two deaths are related, Calo said.

Police didn’t immediately release the names or ages of the men, and an investigation is ongoing.
